I present here two distinct types of metal statuary: my small feline postures, hand formed from single, unbroken lengths of aluminum wire and copper tubing, and my larger human figures fitted from found metal objects and arc-joined.
The smooth, contemporary-styled wire cat sculptures are designed to express the graceful essence of the feline using only the barest suggestion of line and form. With the larger figures, I attempt to wed classical European forms with machine-age aesthetics by creating sleek, clean, and sensuous human shapes out of hard-edged and “dirty” industrial materials.
Indoors, the hard metal pieces are outstanding, easily capable of drawing focus in virtually any surroundings. They also work well out in the garden, where they will often rust to a worn-brown finish, complementing living foliage. The soft metal cat figures are lighter in weight, and can be accentuated by the addition of a wood, stone, or simple tile base.
